Food Safety Supervision Skill Set

This program is designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills to maintain food safety and hygiene standards in food handling and supervision.
As of December 2023, Tasmanian-based food, catering and retail businesses are required to appoint at least one Food Safety Supervisor (FSS), who has completed training from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), in two nationally recognised units of competency.

Units of competency:
SITXFSA005 - Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety
SITXFSA006 - Participate in Safe Food Handling Practices

Individuals involved in food-related activities, such as those in the tourism, hospitality, catering, and retail industries, must have the necessary skills to handle food in a safe and
hygienic way, from storage to preparation, display, service, and disposal.

These units equip the food safety supervisor with the necessary skills to manage food in a safe and hygienic way. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Hybrid delivery - Online theory* & 1 x 5 hour workshop:

ShopSmart will help you to understand how to read food labels, and what to look for when choosing healthy options for yourself and your family. You will also receive a handy wallet card for quick reference when shopping.

ShopSmart covers:
Healthy eating, as recommended by the Australian Dietary Guidelines
How to make decisions about the product, from the list of ingredients
How to make sense of the numbers in the nutrition information panel
How to choose foods suitable for you, based on a product’s nutrition information panel
What the glycaemic index (GI) is and how to use it.

By the end of this program, you will feel confident reading product information and nutrition panels. So next time you visit a supermarket you will be able to make the best decisions for your health and wellbeing.

The range of stalls includes second hand books, bric and brac, local craft, fresh vegetables, seasonal plants for sale, locally made jams, preserves & cakes. All proceeds from Stalls and our sales go to the daily operations of The Village.

Spring Bay Potters at the Village

Spring Bay Potters at the Village invite you to their end of year exhibition opening on Friday 8 December 2023 at 2:00pm 

Enjoy light refreshments and wine, while you meet the potters, both new and experienced and be amazed by the variety of functional and sculptural artworks. 

Most of the works will be on sale, so it is a good time to buy unquire Christmas presents. 

Everyone is welcome. 

If you can't make it to the opening, you can call into the Village any time from 11:30am to 3pm. This show will be on for December until mid January. This project has been sponsored by East Coast Regional Development Organisation.

Kevin Bloody Wilson – Bicheno

Kevin Bloody Wilson’s story is now one of legend. He originally wrote & recorded songs on a homemade cassette tape for his mates, simply songs penned about his experiences living in the Outback & working nights as a part time musician & an electrician by day in the gold mines in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Kev proudly sports a nomination for Australian Of The Year as one of the country’s most prolific comedian, songwriter & performers. While his songs & concert performances continue to rattle the cages of the PC Brigade, Kevin Bloody Wilson has earned his place in the entertainment industry. All of his CDs & DVDs have achieved gold status globally, with many reaching platinum status. His music has also been preserved for generations to come in the National Film & Sound Archive in Canberra.

Spoke Motorcycle Festival 2024

Coles Bay Triathlon 2024

The Coles Bay Triathlon is held within the natural reserves of beautiful Coles Bay, on the east coast of Tasmania. Situated at the northern edge of the Freycinet National Park, the Coles Bay Triathlon is one of the most iconic destination events in Australia and is not to be missed.

A 1.9 km swim, 90 km ride and 21.1 km run (Half), 1500/40/10 (Olympic) and 750/20/5 (Sprint), with the most spectacular natural backdrop you will ever experience. Coles Bay is situated at the northern edge of the Freycinet National Park. Located 218 km northeast of Hobart and 202 km southeast of Launceston. It is justifiably one of the famous wilderness beauty spots on Tasmania’s east coast.

The East Coast Harvest Odyssey, known as ECHO Festival, has become known for weaving together immersive sensory experiences around the traditions of harvest, old and new. This boutique festival guides guests on a journey of exploration that encompasses all senses – taste, smell, sight, sound and touch.

ECHO Festival is back in 2024 for another year. Hosted in the picturesque wine country on the fringes of Swansea, the 2024 program brings together chefs, winemakers and producers along with artists, musicians, storytellers, scientists, entrepreneurs and thought leaders.

The Mitchell Women: a journey to unknown stories

In association with the exhibition Dear Kate now showing at the East Coast Heritage Museum, the artist Jane Giblin will be running workshops to share what she has learned about The Sarah Mitchell Scrapbook.

In the workshop you will join Jane in investigating the images and stories emerging from the scrapbook and learn to work with ink, nib, and watercolour.

You will be assisted to write and illustrate your own stories and think about how we capture family histories, how we might draw them and the added value of writing about them.

Workshop fee: $46 (Please pay in cash on the day - correct money appreciated)

What to bring: A few family pictures, comfortable clothing, a bottle of water. All art materials are provided but bring some of your own if you prefer.

Art supplies will be provided.

The range of stalls includes second hand books, bric and brac, local craft, fresh vegetables, seasonal plants for sale, locally made jams, preserves & cakes. All proceeds from Stalls and our sales go to the daily operations of The Village.

ANZAC DAY – Bicheno, Swansea & Triabunna

BICHENO 

Bicheno RSL holds two marches each ANZAC Day – 05:45 and 10:45, along Burgess St from the Bicheno IGA at the corner of Foster St, to the Bicheno Memorial Hall / Cenotaph at the corner of James St.
The march takes approximately 10 minutes and the ceremony a further 20 minutes.

SWANSEA  

ANZAC Day Services on 25th April at the Cenotaph, Heritage Museum Gardens, are as follows;

6:00am Dawn Service,
10:30am Parade on Franklin Street.
11:00am ANZAC Day Service.

 Only Service and Ex-Service Personnel and the Drum Corp will be permitted to march in the Parade.

Marshalling will be at the Football Oval and parade along Franklin St to Maria St and return to the Cenotaph at the Heritage Museum Gardens.

 Franklin Street will be closed to traffic from 10.30 to 11.40. Traffic will be diverted via River Road, from Maria St to Victoria Street. SES and Police will be in attendance.

TRIABUNNA

Bicheno Devil of a Swim
