Environmental Health Officer
Join our team and help protect the health and wellbeing of one of Tasmania’s most spectacular regions.
At Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, we’re passionate about creating healthy, safe and thriving communities. Stretching along Tasmania’s stunning East Coast, our municipality offers an enviable lifestyle, strong community connections and the opportunity to make a genuine difference every day.
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Environmental Health Officer to join our Planning and Development team based in Triabunna.
This is a part-time, ongoing position, 2 to 3 days (15 to 22.5 hours) per week with an annual salary of $80,019 to $92,204 per annum (pro rata), plus 18.5% superannuation (6.5% of which can be taken as salary).
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Environmental Health Officer, you’ll play an important role in protecting public and environmental health across the municipality. Working across a diverse range of responsibilities, you’ll provide professional advice, undertake regulatory activities and work collaboratively with residents, businesses, government agencies and colleagues to promote positive environmental health outcomes.
This is a varied role that will see you:
- Undertake inspections of food businesses, public facilities, swimming pools and other regulated premises.
- Investigate environmental health complaints and work with stakeholders to achieve practical and compliant outcomes.
- Provide education and advice to residents, businesses, and community groups.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and prepare reports in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Work collaboratively with Planning, Natural Resource Management and other Council teams on environmental matters.
- Build positive relationships with State Government agencies and participate in statewide environmental health networks.
- Contribute to Council’s strategic environmental health initiatives.
About You
You are someone who enjoys working with people just as much as you enjoy applying legislation and technical knowledge. You have sound judgement, excellent communication skills and can confidently manage competing priorities while maintaining a practical, customer-focused approach.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A Degree in Environmental Health (or another qualification recognised by the Director of Public Health for appointment as an Environmental Health Officer in Tasmania).
- A current driver’s licence.
- Experience undertaking environmental health inspections and investigations.
- The ability to interpret and apply environmental health legislation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to educate, influence and resolve issues professionally.
- Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Experience working within Local Government will be highly regarded.
